Chilali and the Chief are a Western Australian based singer-songwriter duo who came together because of a shared passion for the craft of songwriting and the urge to perform their original music. But more than this, the pair are inspired by and dedicated to empowering humanity and capturing the beauty of life. Their style fuses lyrical poetry set to sophisticated instrumental stylings. With irresistible lilting vocals that soar above fiery guitar flourishes, painted amidst the ambience of electronica textures, their style defies rigid categorisation. Yet the distinct influences of Latin, Jazz, Blues, Classical, Folk and World music are obviously prevalent, all wrapped up in Contemporary Indi-Pop sensibilities.
Their lyrics depict the full spectrum of the human experience from the familiar traditions of Love lost & found, to the ecstasy of passion for life, all encompassing the winding journey to find meaning to our human existence.
Singer & principal lyricist, Chilali was initially drawn to the art of song writing because of her great love for words, story telling and dance. Particularly, the illustrious stories inherited & passed down through generations via ancient ‘songlines’ & dance. Her more contemporary approach to her art flows through to her lyrical content as well as her dynamic stage persona.
